Project #3 Draft March 14, 2010

Title Page:

-       GTU IT Technician: Valerie Cooper

-       GTU Professor: Kathi Nunley

-       GTU Student: Alison Ridgeway

-       Test Sponsor: GeekTech University

-       Relevant Dates: March 22, 2010 – March 24, 2010

-       Prepared by: Jennifer Nguyen, GTU IT Technician

Table of Contents:

-       Depending on length, will provide an easier mean for readers to sort through the test plan.

Executive Summary/Statement of Purpose:

-       This document explains the test plan for Google instructional materials regarding Picasa.  The purpose of the usability test is to provide insight into user problems, concerns, and preferences.

Test Parameters:

-       The time frame for the test is about a month.

-       The testing will take place outside a lab and in the field. The IT employee will take the test in a conference room, and the professor and student will take the test in the computer lab at GTU.

-       The audience pertains to GTU employees/students.

User Profile:

-       Picasa will be used by a wide variety of individuals. Since the ages of the students at GTU as well as the education levels differ, it would be best to define different subgroups of users. The first group will be based on expertise. Is the user a beginner to photo-sharing programs or are they perhaps a photography major? The second group will be based on age. Is the user younger or older? Do they have more or less training on computers? Finally, the third group will be based on levels of stress. Are students who are more stressed out more confused with how to use Picasa than their professors are?

Test Issues:

-       Are the instructions clear and concise?

-       Are the instructions easy to follow?

-       Do the instructions take into account different settings for PC/Mac?

-       Is the audio level appropriate?

-       Are there any ‘background’ noises that need to be eliminated?

Test Goals:

-       Provide clear and concise instructions

-       Provide instructions that are easy to follow

-       Make sure instructions differ for PC/Mac users

-       Make sure audio level is appropriate

-       Eliminate any possible ‘background’ noises

Participant Recruitment Plan:

-       Email GTU students asking for volunteers

-       Send a memo to GTU employees

Participant Screen Plan:

-       Provide potential participants with a screening questionnaire.

  • How much experience do they have with a computer?
  • Age?
  • GTU status?
  • Gender?
  • Photosharing program experience?

  1. Hey!!!
here is my peer review of your draft!

Do you have any unanswered questions after you finished reading the draft? What are they?

Nope. I do not have any unanswered questions. The draft is thorough and well written.

    ◦ What did you like about the draft? How/why did you like it? How might the author build on that section?

I liked the detail of the draft. Although it is just a draft it is an in-depth look at the project. I think it will turn out great by the final draft.

◦What sections are confusing to you? How/why? Ask your classmates questions that would help you to make sense of the section.

I am not confused by any part of the draft. It is well organized and separated into different parts so therefore it is easy to read. Every draft of a project needs work because it is the first attempt to complete the assignment. But so far so good!!

    ◦ Where would you like to know more? Ask questions!

I am one of the usability testers for this project so I am sure I will get to know more about this project!!

    ◦ Does the draft provide all the requested information listed in the assignment prompt? If not, what is it missing?

I am pretty sure this draft covers all bases listed in the assignment prompt.

    ◦ Use the”Editing Proofreading Strategies” (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/general/gl_edit.html) to focus on some content and structure elements. Try to give specific details and examples of how/why you would revise something.

At first glance I cannot find any major errors in the document.

    ◦ Use the same page to focus on some surface and style elements. Try to give specific details and examples of how/why you would revise something.

I liked the format of this draft. I think it will be an excellent project. The style is sharp and clean.

    - I think you are more on top of it than most you are on the right track and doing a good job.

    • Do you have any unanswered questions after you finished reading the draft? What are they?

I think you are on the right track on the usability plan, the only question I have is what do you mean by having different account settings for mac/pc? Instead of having different settings wouldn’t it be better if the direction for both mac and pc were similar.

    • What did you like about the draft? How/why did you like it? How might the author build on that section?
I like that the draft is very clear and concise

    • What sections are confusing to you? How/why? Ask your classmates questions that would help you to make sense of the section.

Nothing was confusing to me because the draft was very clear and well written

    • Where would you like to know more? Ask questions!

I would like to know more about how you will receive the results. Are you going to have surveys for participants to fill out?

    • Does the draft provide all the requested information listed in the assignment prompt? If not, what is it missing?

I am sure that the draft provided meets all the requested information listed.

    • Use the”Editing Proofreading Strategies” (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/general/gl_edit.html) to focus on some content and structure elements. Try to give specific details and examples of how/why you would revise something.

I couldn’t find any errors while proofreading and I think you wrote well.

    • Use the same page to focus on some surface and style elements. Try to give specific details and examples of how/why you would revise something.

I think the surface and style in this draft is good and shouldn’t be change.
